Selective Catalytic Reduction

scr systemEpcon has designed SCR systems based on cutting edge technologies as an industry leader in research & development with our own original designs. Contact Us today to learn more about how our Air Pollution Control equipment and environmental technology can help you.

Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) consists predominantly of Nitrogen Oxide (NO) and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2). The NOx emissions contribute to the formation of acid rain and ozone.

Technologies have been developed to remove NOx from process emissions. Selective non catalytic reduction (SNCR) and Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) are processes designed to reduce the emissions of oxides of nitrogen. SNCR systems were the first proven technologies to reduce NOx through stoichiometric combustion. Although this was a great advancement in the field of NOx reduction the SCR systems target the desired reduction and can operate at a large range of temperatures depending on the type of catalyst used. SCR with Ammonia (Anhydrous and Aqueous) and Urea can be used to achieve the desired reduction in NOx emissions.

Processes that may benefit from Epcon’s NOx abatement technology:

  • Chemical, manufacturing or recycling plants involved with:
    • Adipic acid
    • Nitric acid
    • Acreylonitrile /acetonitrile
  • Catalyst manufacturing plants
  • Gas turbine engines
  • Stationary engines
  • Fired heaters
  • Boilers
  • Coating operations that use nitrogen-bearing solvents such as z-methyl-pryollidone
  • Steel production operations with:
    • Reheat furnaces
    • Coke ovens
    • Taconite pellitization
  • Ammunition or military fuel recovery

scr systemThe basic equations governing SCR reductions are as follows:

4NO + 4NH3 + O2 --------> 4N2 + 6H2O
2NO2 + 4NH3 + O2 --------> 3N2 + 6H2O

Complete integration of an Epcon SCR system includes the following:

  • SCR Catalysts
  • Ammonia injection grid
  • Ammonia control systems
  • NOx analyzers
  • Heat recovery equipment
  • Auxiliary burners
